FAQs: From the basics to the embarrased-to-ask

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, I do not. However, I am happy to provide receipts for you, if you would like to submit them for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Should I tip?

Tips are appreciated but not an expectation. Excessive tips will be politely declined.

Will this hurt?

Many clients mistakenly believe that "good" massage has to be painful. Accessing deeper tissue structures may sometimes get a little uncomfortable, but I never want you to be guarding and wincing through the session. I encourage open communication but I will also check-in if I feel your body tensing. Our goal is to challenge the tissue (to stretch and open), without creating damage or pain.

Should I talk or stay quiet?

This is your decision. I really enjoy getting to know my clients, but I am also respectful of your time. You choose. Each session is yours to design.

What if I fall asleep?

This happens and it's normal. My default is to let you sleep unless I need you to turn over. I will continue with the massage unless you would prefer I wake you or stop.

Will I have to take off my clothes?

Only if you want to. Typically, I will ask you to undress to your level of comfort. I mean it! That said, effective soft-tissue (muscle, connective tissues) work is best achieved through skin-level contact. The majority of my clients will remove all or most of their clothing for sessions. If this does not work for you, let me know - and we will work together to find a solution that does.

You will undress to your level of comfort in privacy, while I wash my hands and prepare for the session. You will then lay under a sheet and light blanket. I will uncover only the part of your body that I am working on (i.e. arm, back, leg) and then cover it again when I am finished. Your breasts/nipples and genitalia will always remain covered and untouched.

Are you going to massage my... butt?

Again, this is up to you. The muscles in your bum and hips are large and play a major role in moving through life. If you are struggling with low back pain, knee or hip pain, massage in this area may be the key to your relief. Your gluteal massage is almost all done through the sheet and is specifically muscle-focused.  OF COURSE - if you would prefer no contact in this area at all - just let me know!

What about body hair, acne, erections, gas, or other (possibly) embarrassing issues?

Please trust me when I say that these things are not a big deal. The human body is amazing and sometimes unpredictable. As long as you have recently bathed, your body is ready for massage. Don't worry about (non-contagious) skin issues - I don't. Don't worry about shaving - unless it's important to you and your ability to relax. As far as gas, snoring, drooling, and even occasional erections, these are all normal things that can happen when the human body is in a relaxed state. We will keep things professional.
